Use the Summer Season to Your Advantage

Depending on where you live, summer is typically the most looked forward to season during the year, and for good reason. Sunny weather, vacation time, long days, and easy living, make it hard not to love. With psychological health boosted during the summer months, it’s just as easy to boost your physical health, and maybe give your joints a little extra support along the way — whether that comes from your routine or from joint support supplements.

Soak in the Sun

Sun exposure is often criticized as being unhealthy and damaging. While this can be true if overindulged, regular exposure can actually be very healthy for the body. When you’re exposed to direct sunlight, your skin produces vitamin D, a nutrient that has been studied for its role in supporting a healthy inflammatory response. The key though, to sun exposure, is moderation.

Eat Healthy

Certain healthy foods are more prevalent during the summer season. Watermelons are a good source of vitamin C and other minerals that support overall wellness. Cherries are another fruit researchers have looked at closely, particularly in regards to gout. Lastly, tomatoes are always a good addition to your diet as well, and are available in plenty during the summer.

Swim Your Heart Out

What other activity is more commonly associated with summer than swimming? Nothing quite beats diving into blue waters during a hot summer day. Swimming also happens to be one of the best low-impact exercises for your body. Low-impact exercises are great for strengthening the muscles around your joints, improving flexibility, and staying in shape.

Hydrate! ...and Then Hydrate Some More

Water is essential for nearly every bodily task. Without it, we could scarcely survive a few days. It is especially important to stay hydrated during the summer season, when the heat can cause excessive perspiration. If you wait to drink until you feel thirsty, your body is already dehydrated. Aim to drink at least eight glasses per day, but more if you are outside or exercising on a regular basis. Do you spend time doing anything special during the summer months? How do you use the season to your advantage?
