DMSO - What Is It and Why Is It Important?

DMSO

Dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) is a colorless liquid organosulfur compound discovered in the 1860s. While it began as a by-product of the wood industry, it has been in use as a commercial solvent since 1953. In the early 1960s, while researching ways to preserve organs for transplant surgeries Dr. Stanley Jacob with the Oregon Health & Science University made a remarkable discovery. He found that DMSO can penetrate the skin and other membranes without damaging it and could carry other compounds into the body or a biological system.

That carrier quality is what makes DMSO interesting for topical products. It is widely used as a vehicle for applying other compounds through the skin, and it has been studied for its role in supporting a healthy inflammatory response. Researchers have also looked at DMSO cream in people with complex regional pain syndrome.

DMSO has been studied in connection with a number of medical conditions and ailments. A 1978 study looked at DMSO in patients with inflammatory disorders and reported meaningful changes in the group that was studied. And a gel containing DMSO is sold in Europe for topical use on sprains and local inflammation.

DMSO and Flexcin

DMSO is a key ingredient in Flexcin's Motion Lotion. Our lotion is a topical cream that complements our Flexcin capsules by letting you apply support right where you feel it. It can be used alongside Flexcin supplements to support everyday joint comfort. It also works as a spot application — rub it directly onto an area that feels sore after overexertion. Additionally, it’s a great option for people who are unable to swallow capsules.

Our key ingredient is CM8 (Cetyl Myristoleate), a fatty acid that occurs naturally in some mammals. It has many biological functions, including supporting a healthy inflammatory response and everyday joint comfort. Cetyl myristoleate has been studied for its role in joint comfort in research published through the National Institutes of Health.

When applied topically, the lubricating properties in CM8 allow the supporting ingredients to reach the joint area and support long term joint health. We combine DMSO and CM8 with Emu Oil, which contains linolenic acid and oleic acid. It penetrates the skin quickly. Together, this combination is formulated to support a healthy inflammatory response, support joint lubrication and everyday movement, and support everyday joint comfort.

At Flexcin we stand behind our products. If you’re not satisfied with the results you experience simply return your first order (up to three empty bottles) for a full refund of the purchase price, less shipping & handling.
